Player Protection
This page applies to every adult with an account at British Columbia Casino. It takes effect the moment you register and covers every visit and every device for the entire time your account remains open.
Bright lights. Clear limits. Your call.
1. Our commitment
The games are the show. Your wellbeing runs the house.
Our casino is full of buzz, and we want each visit to stay a good night out, never a habit that takes more than it gives back. Every account comes with protection tools at no cost. Our support team is trained to spot harm early, and when a play pattern hints at trouble, we step in. That might mean a message from us, a pause on promotions or a direct talk about limits.
Online play here runs only where the law permits online gaming. We follow Canadian rules on verifying age, checking identity and blocking money laundering. Pair this page with our Terms of Use and our Bonus and Promotion Rules. If a promotion ever conflicts with a protection tool, the tool wins. Every single time.
2. The controls you hold
Every tool lives in your account, and you decide when to switch it on.
Limits on deposits, wagers and stakes
Three limits, three jobs. Deposit limit: the most money you can add in a period of your choosing. Wager limit: the ceiling on all your bets added together across that same period. Stake limit: the cap on any single bet, keeping every spin and hand inside your plan. Use one, two or all three.
Reality checks
A reality check pauses the game at an interval you pick. On screen: the minutes logged this session and whether you sit ahead or behind overall. Then the choice: carry on or log out? One tap stays. One tap goes.
Time alerts
Want a firm marker? A time alert lets you decide the length of a session. When you reach it, a clear on-screen notice tells you, so the hours do not slip away under the neon.
Take a break (cooling-off)
Need a breather? Pick a cooling-off pause: shortest is one day, longest is six weeks. While it's on, the lights go out: no deposits, no bets, no bonus offers, no marketing emails. Once started, a pause cannot be shortened, even if you ask. When it wraps up, your account switches back on with all your limits just where you set them.
Self-exclusion
Self-exclusion is a stronger step for when a brief break will not do. Your account stays locked for every day of the period you choose, all marketing ends, and we will not lift the block early. During that time we also take reasonable steps to prevent anyone opening a fresh account under your name. For added protection, combine it with the blocking software in section 5.
Account closure
Done with gambling, or just with British Columbia Casino? Send us an email and we will shut the account. Before that, any withdrawable balance is paid out through an approved withdrawal method. Closing an account differs from self-exclusion. If gambling harm is behind your request, let us know and we will process the request as a self-exclusion and the stronger protections will apply.
Self-assessment quiz
A short, private set of questions that helps you see your own habits clearly. More on it in section 6.
Identity and location checks first
Before any deposit goes through, we verify your identity, confirm you have reached 19 years of age, and check that you are located in a region we accept players from. This keeps every account with its rightful owner. Full details are in our KYC & AML Policy.
3. How limit changes take effect
Down is instant. Up takes 24 hours.
Lower a limit and it goes live the second you save. No waiting. No explanation needed.
Pushing a limit higher, or scrapping it entirely? That change waits a full 24 hours, and your current limit holds until the clock runs out. The pause is on purpose: a choice made mid-session, in the heat of play, gets time to cool off. Second thoughts inside those 24 hours? Cancel the request and nothing changes.
The same thinking runs across every tool. Anything that makes your play safer happens straight away. Anything that loosens a control waits.
4. Protecting minors
19+ only. The door stays shut to anyone younger.
Only adults aged 19 or older may gamble with us. We verify age before any deposit, close accounts held by minors and void any bets they placed. If there are children in your home, lock your devices, turn off password saving in your browser, and consider filtering software such as Gamban / GamBlock or BetGuard. Full detail is in our Underage Gambling Policy.
5. Free help, outside our walls
Confidential. Free. No account with us needed.
These organisations are independent of British Columbia Casino. Reach out to them directly, whether the concern is your own play or the play of someone close to you.
- Alberta Health Services Addiction Helpline: confidential support and referral for gambling and other addiction concerns.
- BetGuard: blocking software that keeps gambling sites off your devices.
- Gamban / GamBlock: software that blocks gambling websites and apps on your phone, tablet or computer.
- GamTalk: an online community where people talk openly with others facing gambling problems.
- Gamblers Anonymous: peer support meetings built on shared experience.
6. Check in with yourself
A few honest questions can say a lot.
A self-assessment quiz is available in your account. It is private, takes only a few minutes, and none of your answers have any effect on your account. Some example questions:
- Do you go back to win back what you lost?
- Has the amount you bet crept up to keep the same buzz?
- Have you ever gambled with money set aside for rent, bills or food?
- Trying to gamble less: does it leave you edgy, tense or short-tempered?
- Have you hidden your gambling from the people closest to you?
- Have you sold possessions or borrowed money so you could carry on gambling?
One yes deserves real attention. More than one? Move today: lower a limit, start a cooling-off period or contact an organization from the list above. The quiz is open to retake whenever you like, and lining up your answers over several months tells you more than a single result ever will.
